Garden of the Gods

While in Colorado for the family reunion, my dad, his fiancee, and I went to the Garden of the Gods and Manitou Springs in an attempt to entertain ourselves away from the fam for a few hours. I really liked Manitou Springs; it's a tiny tourist town with weird shops and old-timey buildings, which always excites me! If you've ever been to Bigfork, Montana, it perfectly exemplifies my favorite kind of little touristy town. I'm also a fan of Victoria, BC for similar reasons, but it's not very tiny.

I don't have a ton to say today, as I haven't had my coffee yet and I'm constantly scatter-brained (and will be until I get to London, I imagine). Just wanted to show you these photos, mostly.

It was nice to get to finally meet my dad's fiancee, Pam. I was predisposed not to like her, but she meets with my reluctant approval. Is it one of those things that no matter what, you'll never be 100% okay with who your parents date/marry after they get divorced? Or am I just a petulant brat? Thank goodness my parents have good taste, or I'd be in a constant state of sulkiness in regards to their love lives. "You want to date him? Uuugh." That sort of thing. Have any of you, as adults, experienced a recent parental divorce? I'm still getting over my parents' divorce, and I'm curious to hear how others dealt with a similar situation. Three or four years later and I'm still sad about it. Maybe I need to just suck it up.

Okay sorry, no more downer talk! Pam is a great woman and I'm glad my dad has somebody to look after him. Now I'm going to scour the internet for Doctor Who.

Queue nostalgia! My family and I went to the garden of the Gods when I was 11. I loved it! It was so beautiful there, and we kept climbing on all the rocks. The only bad thing was we got caught in a rather huge hailstorm(We don't have hail in Cali). Your pictures are bringing back so many memories!

It is a bit Victoria-ey! Can imagine it was a bit bittersweet meeting your Dad's lady, I know a couple of people who have gone through parents splitting up in adulthood, in a lot of cases it can be a lot harder because you understand the ins and outs of it a bit more, and because you've felt love and been heartbroken at some point it can be harder to see them go through it. But anyway, you look beautiful as always, keep smiling x

I've seen a lot of photos of Victoria, BC and because I like the name of it I also always wanted to go. Seems so lovely. My parents have been married for 40 years, but I think I would have had a REALLY REALLY hard time with my parents remarrying if they had divorced when they went through their hard years.

It probably sounds weird, but when I see towns like this, I think of how they inspired Frontierland at Disneyland. The red rocks and earth and wooden fences totally remind me of the theme park. I guess that just shows how much of a Californian I am.

It is really great that your dad has met a good woman! I'll try not to post a response to this that's too long, but...yeah, my parents divorced right around when I married my husband. It's cliche to say so, but the holidays are especially hard. And my dad started dating a 20-year-old soon after the divorce. He is still with her (she's younger than two of the four kids in my family), and it is just...not a pleasant situation.

So it's good to see someone else's mature dad with a woman who is not a child!

It's nice that you like your dad's fiancee! My parents split up when I was 16, though they had lived basically separate lives since I was a toddler. I was at first excited that my mom started to date again this past year, but now I hate it because she's acting like a teenager. Texting him constantly, dressing like my 17-year-old sister, debating plastic surgery ... plus he creeps me out. Oh well.

I LIVE IN VICTORIA WOOO! haha

My mom just divorced my step dad and the guy I think she's dating is a really nice guy...but he's pretty old and he is almost blind. And he's an albino. So yeah, there's that.

That first shot might be the coolest picture ever. Looks like y'all had fun!

And no worries about the girlfriend issues; I'm pretty sure that's 100% okay.

Colorado is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. I'm glad you liked your father's fiance. My parents divorced when I was still a baby. I've actually never met him since and have no memory. I'm not exactly sure on how I would act if my mother and step-father divorced. I could only image how hard it must be.
