Living the Dream

As I was driving away from the Smart Park today, gazing lustfully at the H&M display windows, I realized: I am living the Dream. Yes, the Dream with a capital D. Here I am, in a city I love, having pints with a friend I love, eating mac & cheese that I love, driving home to a boyfriend I love, to get all comfy in an apartment I love, all while supporting myself and I did it all on my own. I am a Goddess.

Okay, that's not to say I didn't get help, because I did. I couldn't have done it without my parents, my friends, and most of all Greg, who is as always my greatest supporter and best friend. But seriously, guys. I moved to Portland. I now live in a city that has more than one Thai restaurant (there are five billion in the Hawthorne district in fact, look it up), an H&M, tall buildings, 28 breweries, my two best friends, and fucking awesome weather (aside from the lack of snow). And I did it all myself. And I have a job I actually like, and it's all thanks to ME! I'm applying for grad schools, and it's because I FELT LIKE IT. I am... truly... amazing.

I'm wearing: Gap blouse and bow tie, Old Navy skirt, Alyssa's sweater.

We can all be Goddesses. Let's not be held back by what we think we can do, nor by what we think we should do. Do what you want! Achieve what you want. Don't let the "should" and "shouldn't" and "couldn't" and "wouldn't" get in the way. I'm serious. I've also had a pint on very little food, but I'm still serious. I told myself I couldn't and shouldn't apply for schools in London because I was "settling down" and I didn't want to leave Greg behind, etc., etc. But Greg made me realize: I can. There's nothing holding me back but the mindset that I should be doing a certain thing at a certain time. IT'S NOT TRUE. Do whatever the HELL you want, you crazy bastards!

And thus, what I wanted to do today was to wear a girl's version of a bow tie. So I did. I knew this weird scarf/headband/belt/tie from the Gap would come in handy one day! Bow ties, as you all know, are very... very cool.

Oh, I love this post! Isn't that the best feeling when you suddenly realise how amzing everything you've got is! I'm so happy for you that you've got all this figured out :) it's so exciting! And I am with you on the "everyone should just live their dreams" thing, it sounds corny, but we should all just be able to go after what we want instead of being afraid and held back!
Anyway, love it. And love the bow tie - it is extremely cool :p

Aww Meg this post makes me so happy! I'm so glad to see all the positive, amazing things in your life laid on the table. It's so easy to talk about the negative things in life, but it's nice to step back and reevaluate and see things in a positive life. I definitely struggle with this sometimes, but now you have me thinking about how much I have to be grateful for.

And also, you should do whatever your little heart desires! Go to London, because then I'll come see you and that's something my little heart desires. Commence domino effect of bliss NOW. :)

Yes, yes, yes, yes, YES (I wrote YRTES the first time, but that didn't make sense)! I'm so glad you're feeling on top of your game and the world. I'm seriously going to bookmark this post and read it when I'm feeling particularly shit-tastic. It's days like those that I'll need a reminder that I'm actually a fabulous, bowtie-wearing Goddess, just like you. :)

I don't think I have actually commented on your blog before, but I have been reading for a few months (really like your style by the way). Anyways, I really like this post! It is all to easy to get caught up in all the "not yets", "don't haves", "why nots", "grr, arghs" of life and it is all to easy to forget how much we are all actually accomplishing! Thanks for the great reminder!

Way to own yourself! :D I'm so used to hearing people say how much they wish they could go back to being totally dependent like things were when we were all little, but this is a nice change of thought! You should be proud and happy with where you are :D Major point in life is to live it and be happy with where it is going!

Can't wait til you start getting schools begging for you to attend. Like seriously, sending you presents in the mail to persuade you to go to their school. They totally realize you're a goddess and are probably already putting up statues of your likeness. Those Brits are so thoughtful :)

Pretty sure I'm in love with this outfit. Like, "if you love it so much, why don't you marry it" love. Outfit, will you marry me? Bowtie+Awesome Stripes+ Puppy Mayhem sweater= Overload of amazing. I am in overload.

You are the epitome of amazing. I envy your self-sufficiency and am seeking it every day. I'm so glad for you, living the Dream, and I'm in awe of your simple gratefulness for the most basic things that you love the most.

Thanks for posting this today! And, duh, bow ties will always, always be cool. The coolest.

Fuck Yes, my dear. I couldn't agree with you more. I'm a college drop out but I have managed to find a kick ass career, become a home owner, live in a great place, marry the perfect mate, and vacation twice a year. Growing up, I was relatively poor so I feel like I own this world.

My sister lives in Portland and loves it. I am trying to make a trip out there this summer. I hear such great things.

Fanastic look, as usual. I like the floral tie with the stripes. Stripes and floral is probably my favorite patterns to clash.

I love love love that sweater! Hahaha, and bow ties ARE cool. I love the elongated version that girls wear. It sort of reminds of a bolo tie but not really...It's super cute on you! Like a super cute young fashionable librarian.
